Masks for neighbours

4/15/2020

It's an honour to be part of the country's mask-making effort. After digging through all those remnants of fabric that were too large to throw away, plenty emerged that would be perfect for masks. And so it began... then the elastic supply ran out and hand-made ties are laborious... but not to worry, there are many videos showing how to make ties from old t-shirts.

The first dozen masks were made for the local men's shelter and a further 22 for a women's transitional housing center. On to the next batch, with much of the credit going to my 60 year old Singer sewing machine!

Let's all work together and help each other through this crisis.

It'll be winter soon... and I've started designing the Polar Express Songbook!  Elves and snowflakes, cookies and pajamas!

Are you ready to ride Polar Express on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad? The kids and grandkids will love this magical experience in December.

Don't have little ones? Volunteer to be an elf and enjoy the fun. Santa will be so grateful for your help.

Remembering when...

Years ago, my elementary school had a rummage sale that included a bunch of first grade desks for $5 each. How could I not buy one? I may have sat in this very desk!

Now, the desk is sitting in the studio beside my drafting table & computer, flat files and book cases. Now, I use Photoshop instead of crayons. But I still experience the joy of creating new artwork and designs. It's nice to know that the seed planted at age 6 is still growing.

Rustic Simplicity

Such an odd object to share... yet, I love the rustic charm and simplicity of this old pencil sharpener. As a child it was attached to the kitchen wall. Our lives were filled with coloured pencils, crayons, paints, clay, paper and plenty of leeway to create. This old sharpener reminds me of that freedom and I wonder at all it's seen. Now it’s in my studio, sitting beside more modern things like a flash drive and a digital camera. Nostalgia has the power to calm.
